Clostridioides difficile, also known as C. difficile or C. diff, is a type of bacteria (germ) that lives in the gut. It can produce toxins which can cause an infection (CDI).

CDI can recur in up to 25% of people after a first episode, and even higher rates after a second episode.

Symptoms of CDI

The most common symptoms are:

diarrhea multiple times a day
a fever
loss of appetite
feeling sick
